The festival offers new bands a chance to perform in venues in which they might never otherwise play, and for the most successful participants to progress through a series of rounds to a series of high profile shows performing in front of the music industry business.  There are benefits for the less successful too, such as the chance to network with other musicians, to meet venue owners and managers and to be able to play to an otherwise unattainable audience.

The rounds take the form of a series of shows where each band has 20 minutes to impress the audience and judges, those receiving most votes continuing to the next phase.
